GPS/GNSS signal quality monitoring stations installed by Blue Dot Solutions detected more than a dozen serious jamming incidents in June. These incidents pose a significant risk of disrupting the operation of critical digital systems used daily by businesses, service providers, and public administration.

Pomerania as a testing ground for GPS/GNSS Attacks

In recent years, northern Poland has been experiencing deliberate jamming and spoofing of the GNSS/GPS signal. It is now known that the sources of these disruptions are primarily located in the Kaliningrad Oblast. The current geopolitical situation and Poland’s location adjacent to Russia and Belarus make our country vulnerable to some of the largest cyberattacks in Europe. The continuous development of electronic warfare capabilities means that GNSS signal jamming not only persists but also varies in duration.

Furthermore, a scientific publication appeared this year regarding Russia’s capabilities to jam GNSS signals using satellites. Confirmation of this research would signify that Russian jamming has reached a new, previously unexplored level.

The targets of such attacks are no longer limited to the military and aviation sectors. Deliberate GNSS signal jamming is increasingly affecting the civilian market. GNSS signal jamming causes problems with time synchronization and positioning. In northern and eastern Poland, problems such as inaccurate location tracking of city buses and trams, as well as rental vehicles and bicycles, are becoming increasingly common. In Pomerania, there are also frequent instances of loss of control over private and simple civilian drones. This problem is undoubtedly linked to incidents of GNSS signal jamming.

Blue Dot Solutions continuously monitors signal interference

Since May 2026, the Gdańsk-based technology company Blue Dot Solutions has been continuously monitoring the quality of GPS/GNSS signals. The first prototype monitoring station records signals on the two primary bands (L1 and L2) of all four GNSS constellations (GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and BEIDOU). The station is located in the southern part of Gdańsk at an elevation of approximately 100 meters above sea level, with a clear view to the northeast, where a potential source of GNSS signal jamming is located.

According to the company, in May 2026, the station detected more than a dozen incidents of GNSS signal jamming. The characteristics of the detected events were confirmed by external sources. The station recorded some of the strongest jamming signals at the same time that vehicle location issues were occurring. A serious incident recorded by the stations also occurred during the British Minister of National Defense’s flight over the Baltic Sea.

June 2026 - jamming incidents continue

In June, the company launched a second station to monitor the quality of GPS/GNSS signals. The design of this station is intended to deliberately shield it from most signals received from the northeast. This station configuration allows, among other things, for the detection of differences in the recorded signals from the two devices.

In June, both stations detected a total of 18 incidents, including 11 classified as “high probability” and 7 as “possible”: Probable events lasted a total of 63 hours, accounting for 8.75% of the total time in June. The average duration of a single probable event was 5 hours and 44 minutes. Possible events lasted a total of 19 hours, while a single possible event lasted an average of 2 hours and 43 minutes. In total, detected disruptions with “high probability” and “possible” statuses lasted 11.39% of the total time in June. GNSS signal disruption is no longer a sporadic occurrence—the data indicates that these activities are long-term in nature.

Continuous monitoring of GPS/GNSS signal interference also made it possible to determine when incidents occur. Most of them take place at night and in the morning. Incidents typically begin between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and usually end by 11:00 a.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST).

The Blue Dot Solutions team also reports that 50% of all incidents involve the GNSS L1 band, about 20% involve only the L2 band, while 30% of incidents involve a simultaneous attack on both bands. Attacks combined in this way can effectively disrupt the operation of many types of GNSS receivers. Problems may affect the operation of simple receivers built into phones, support for precision agriculture, and even multi-frequency, high-precision surveying receivers.

Monitoring station network expansion

Blue Dot Solutions is not slowing down. The company intends to continue expanding its network of stations monitoring GPS/GNSS signals. New receivers will be installed in additional locations, including outside Gdańsk. The distribution of stations will not only enable continuous signal monitoring in various locations; the company also intends to acquire broader analytical capabilities in the future, including the ability to precisely determine the direction of signal interference.

More than a dozen serious incidents of GPS/GNSS signal jamming in May 2026

Gdansk, 2nd of June 2026. Blue Dot Solutions’ GPS/GNSS signal monitoring station detected several serious jamming incidents in May 2026. Some of them could have had a significant impact on the functioning of various systems in Pomerania, Poland.

For several years, the Pomeranian region, the southern Baltic region, and much of Poland have been grappling with increasingly frequent GPS/GNSS signal jamming and spoofing. There is virtually no doubt that the source of these jamming incidents is special military units located in the Königsberg Oblast.

The jamming has resulted in a growing number of problems and the partial or even complete inoperability of many devices and systems. GPS/GNSS signal jamming and spoofing no longer only impacts aviation and the military – the Polish Pomeranian region is seeing a rise in incidents affecting civilian operations. Problems with locating vehicles, including bicycles and city buses, are becoming increasingly common, as are loss of control of drones.

In May 2026, the Gdańsk-based company Blue Dot Solutions began regular monitoring of GPS/GNSS signal quality. The first station was installed in Gdańsk, at an altitude of approximately 100 meters above sea level. The selected installation site offers a good view of virtually the entire sky, particularly to the east. The first station monitors signal quality in the L1/G1/E1/B1 and L2/G2/E5/B2 bands for GNSS satellites. This first station is experimental, testing detection algorithms and implementing modifications and updates. Subsequent stations will monitor additional bands using these tested algorithms.

    Summary of GPS/GNSS jamming incidents in May 2026

    The first Blue Dot Solutions station monitored GPS/GNSS signal quality for 624 hours in May. This corresponds to 26 days of operations. The remaining time was spent on software improvements and testing, as well as updating server settings.

    During the entire measurement period, there were nine days when interference incidents were recorded. Most incidents occurred in the second half of May. Additionally, six days with a very high probability of GPS/GNSS signal interference were recorded.

    In May 2026, a total of at least 12 serious jamming incidents were identified. Most of them had very similar characteristics. The station typically records an increase in noise levels with a simultaneous increase in continuous wave attenuation and a decrease in signal gain. Typically, these attacks last between a few and dozen hours.

    In addition to “typical” GPS/GNSS jamming incidents, the team also detected several unusual incidents. The most serious occurred on May 21, 2026, when we recorded a very unusual increase in the transmitted signal strength on the L2/G2/E5/B2 band. This incident may have been an attempt to disrupt a British government official’s flight from Estonia to the UK. This event clearly demonstrates that intentional signal interference is not uniform and therefore difficult to detect uniformly.

     

      Continuous monitoring begins

      In the coming months, the Blue Dot Solutions team plans to install additional monitoring stations. This will allow us to compare incidents and detect instances of local interference with the GPS/GNSS signal. This type of jamming, while also common, is more difficult to detect.

      Intentional GNSS signal jamming is a significant problem affecting northern Poland. It affects the operation of public transport, rental cars, and taxis. Interference can also cause problems locating city bikes, which can sometimes be “found” in the Baltic Sea, even off the coast of the Königsberg Oblast. However, these are just clear examples of a very broad problem that our station can help identify and ultimately counteract.

      “This first station already demonstrates how sensitive our systems are to various types of GPS/GNSS signal jamming,” explains Dr. Krzysztof Kanawka, CEO of Blue Dot Solutions. “We’ve noticed a clear correlation between incidents and strange readings from digital systems. For example, in May, private users lost at least a dozen drones in Pomerania. What’s more, maps often showed local buses, trams, rental cars, and bicycles in the waters of the Bay of Gdańsk. These types of problems are just the tip of the iceberg – our task in the coming weeks is to connect jamming incidents with problems in digital systems.”
